Toyota confirmed that it had signed a contract with Timo Glock, which shows that they really want the 2007 GP2 champion within their team for the next season.
It has emerged that the future of the 25-year-old German is currently in the hands of the Contract Recognition Board (CRB), as this contract arrives while Glock is still tied with BMW-Sauber.
While the latter cannot offer a racing seat for Glock next year, the Hinwil-based team would not be keen to release him because Toyota wants to secure a three-year contract with the driver.
« We have been informed by the CRB that a problematic contract has been submitted, » recently confirmed, the BMW Motorsport director, Mario Theissen.
« We will wait for their decision. »
The manager of Glock, Hans Bernd Kamps, added: « In Timo’s interest, we hope for a reasonable solution that will arrive as quickly as possible. »
It has been reported that the CRB is currently meeting in Geneva to decide on this conflict. The decision is not expected to be known before next week.
Toyota President John Howett stated: « We have an agreement with Glock. »
In August, BMW Sauber announced that Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica will remain with the team for 2008, but added: « As for signing a test driver, we are more reserved. An announcement will be made at a later stage. »
