Button issues an ultimatum to Honda!

Button has only won one Grand Prix in eight racing seasons.

The driver warned the Honda F1 team that he would not accept another season of underperformance in 2008. The Briton scored only six points in 2007, while his teammate Rubens Barrichello did not score a single point, for the first time in his career.

« The car was not competitive, and I am simply not interested in this kind of race, » he stated.

« I would really like to win the title with Honda, but for that I need to start winning races, and if I can’t, I must be ruthless. »

Button revealed: « There is an option in my contract, meaning we can all sit down and discuss my future at the end of the season. »

« If things don’t work out once again, that’s exactly what I will do. I’m not saying I expect to win the world title in 2008, but I want improvement in the true sense of the word. »

Button, who is 27 years old, seems a bit jealous of Lewis Hamilton, who has become the new darling of British supporters after his magnificent season with McLaren.

« I would have liked to be in Lewis’s position this year, not because he is British but simply because it’s Lewis… » he stated.

« If I’m not winning, I don’t give a damn about the person who, on the contrary, wins races. I will make no difference between the person who wins and myself if I am in a competitive car. »

Button will be in his sixth season with Honda in 2008, after having known the same team under the name BAR-Honda in 2003.

« I want to win races, and if I have the chance to drive a car that allows me to do so, I will take my chance and try to become world champion, » stated the Englishman.

« But if I receive a car with the same level of performance as this year’s, therefore not fast enough, I won’t stand a chance, » concluded Button.

The driver has only won one Grand Prix since his debut in F1, and it was with Williams in 2000.
