Sébastien Loeb admitted today that he could no longer afford to make the slightest mistake in the next two rallies if he wanted to win another driver title.

After the disappointment of the Japan rally, where the Frenchman could have capitalized on Gronholm’s withdrawal before he himself had to abandon, simply reset the situation between the two competitors to the same level, with only two rallies left to decide the outcome.

« When Marcus [Gronholm] retired in Japan, we were not able to take advantage of it… but we are keeping him within our reach, » said the Citroën C4 driver.

« We are in the same situation as before, where we needed to win the last 5 rallies, except that after Japan, we need to win the last two… »

Consequently, Loeb will have to win the rally in Ireland this week, on unfamiliar territory, to continue hoping to close his 4-point gap on his Finnish competitor.

“We have no choice but to win,” he added. “We are still very far from the crisis, but we have very little room for maneuver.”

« Citroën has strong experience on asphalt and the C4 has proven its competitiveness, which should be an advantage for us, especially since I hope Dani Sordo can finish ahead of Marcus. » Concluded the triple world champion.

The two drivers of the chevron brand have already familiarized themselves with the Irish special stages after various test phases, but Sordo is not reassured:

“I appreciated my first glimpse of the Irish stages and I do not expect them to be simple,” said the Spaniard.

« I hope we can help Sébastien [Loeb] by finishing ahead of Marcus. That said, we saw in Corsica that he was very fast on asphalt, so my role will undoubtedly be to put pressure on him… » Concluded Sordo.
