The 2010 Indian Grand Prix, officially launched!

An Indian daily confirmed today that an agreement had been reached between Formula 1 leaders and an Indian company to build an FIA-approved F1 circuit in the capital, New Delhi.

The article confirms that a 10-year agreement has been reached between Bernie Ecclestone and India to host a Grand Prix in this rapidly developing country starting in 2010.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) further announced that JP Associate, the company in charge of the project, had appointed Hermann Tilke as the architect of the circuit. He has already presented his project to Ecclestone.

The circuit would then be located about 50 km east of the capital, near a rapidly developing neighborhood.

India is therefore increasingly anchored in F1. After Narain Karthikeyan became the first Indian driver in the discipline in 2005, Force India was recently created by Vijay Mallya. All that was missing was a race to complete this penetration of India, and that is now accomplished.
