Warm-Up – Alain Menu dominates the test session

Alain Menu set the fastest time in the Test on the streets of Macau on Friday as 32 cars are entered in the final round of the 2007 WTCC. The Chevrolet driver lapped in 2:34.389, eight minutes before the track closed.

Augusto Farfus was the second fastest on the 6.12 km circuit, for BMW Team Germany. He clocked a time of 2:34.691, which was 0.028 sec faster than the local driver André Couto, at the wheel of his Alfa Romeo 156 N.technology.

Andy Priaulx, who shares the lead in the championship, rose to the top on three occasions but settled for the 4th fastest time (2:34.814). His BMW colleagues, Alessandro Zanardi and Jörg Müller, achieved the 5th and 6th fastest times respectively.

Yvan Müller, co-leader of the championship, dominated a trio of SEATs, spread from 7th to 9th place. The Frenchman clocked a time of 2:35.608 in his Leon, while Tom Coronel and Rickard Rydell came close by 0.102 sec and 0.213 sec.

Jordi Gené (SEAT) crashed into a rail at the “Reservoir” corner on his first timed lap. The red flag was deployed for 9 minutes.

There were other incidents: Russian Andrey Romanov went off between Moorish Hill and Dona Maria mid-session, local driver Ao Chi Hong spun at Lisbon after colliding with Duncan Huisman. Miguel Freitas also crashed at the same spot as Romanov at the end of the session.

Pierre-Yves Corthals was the fastest of the Independent drivers, in 2:36.717, which placed him in 13th position. Luca Rangoni (Proteam Motorsport) is very close (14th) while Stefano D’Aste and Franz Engstler follow him (16th and 17th).
