After three days on wet and muddy roads, the crews of the FIA World Rally Championship gave a largely positive review of their first trip to Ireland.
Sébastien Loeb, first winner and now leading the championship, is already eager to return: « It was a great event with a nice atmosphere. It was my third rally in Ireland and my third victory. I hope to come back! »
Triple British Rally Champion, Mark Higgins, praises the organizing committee for their work: « Everyone wanted to see the WRC in Ireland. Everything was perfect. Before the rally, I was really afraid of traffic jams but everything went very well. We had no problems. »
The Northern Irishman Niall McShea also emphasized the effort of two countries: « People from the North and South came together for this rally, regardless of religion or thought. Quite simply, it was the first time I went through stages with so many spectators! »
The Rally Ireland is not on the 2008 calendar. We will have to wait until 2009 to revisit the narrow and muddy tracks of a rally already reputed as the toughest of all time…
