The championship is now guaranteed to be won by Ford BP this season thanks to Mikko Hirvonen’s 5th place last week in Ireland. The second place in the standings is also secured by Citroen Total which can no longer be caught, but questions still remain.
The third step of the podium will indeed be contested at the Rally of Great Britain – the last round of the season – between the Subaru World Rally Team and Stobart M-Sport equipped with Ford 2006 cars.
After the trip to Ireland, Stobart has a point lead over Subaru: « We believe that the Stobart team can beat Subaru, » explains Malcolm Wilson – head of Ford.
Both Jari and Henning have extensive experience with slippery conditions. They have achieved good results on dirt and can maintain the third place in the constructors’ standings.
Subaru is counting on recent tests to achieve a good result and position itself behind the two leading teams: « We have always shone in Great Britain, » recalls Richard Taylor, the director of the Japanese team.
« Petter has won this event three times in the past five years. We held tests last week. I hope we have good settings in these difficult conditions. »
A few days before this final stage in 2007, Stobart has regained the advantage over Subaru in Ireland and holds only a one-point lead over the “blues”.
Another question still arises… that of the world champion of the drivers despite Loeb having taken a serious option on the title with a 6-point lead over Gronholm.
