Everyone stands up for… Michael Schumacher

Former world champions Alan Jones and Mika Hakkinen believe that Michael Schumacher made a remarkable comeback at a F1 car cockpit during the Barcelona tests. According to them, this might tempt him to return to competition.

Michael Schumacher will participate a second time in tests for Ferrari. It will be in Jerez, Spain, next week after having beaten all the other drivers in Barcelona.

Jones and Hakkinen stated this week for Autosport that the decision to participate in testing again is proof that the seven-time world champion is increasingly eager for a return to competition.

Jones stated: « After almost a year out of a racing seat, I think I can read his mind: He might be thinking that maybe one last round is possible! »

« He used to take a few months off at the end of each season. Within a few months, the situation this year is the same and it won’t make a big difference. Even two or three years could have done it. »

« It’s a win-win situation: Ferrari would surely gain from his experience and Michael would be thrilled! You can never rule out a comeback, he might think: I am truly appreciated! Money won’t be his primary motivation, it will be all about pleasure. »

« Niki Lauda had been retired for several seasons, and decided to come back, ultimately winning the title. Michael could do the same, » he noted.

When Hakkinen was asked if he thinks Schumacher, given his times during the last tests in Barcelona, would be tempted to return to racing, he stated: Does he represent a loss in the races? The answer is probably yes.
