The United States Grand Prix won the annual Promoters’ Award, which is given by Formula One Management (FOM).
This trophy, presented last night in Monaco during the FIA Gala, is awarded each year to the racing entity that has proven to be the most helpful in difficult conditions.
This year, the title was attributed to the Indianapolis circuit even though the venue will not host a Formula 1 event in 2008.
Tony George, president of the SGI, stated: « The Indianapolis circuit has been one of the flagship players in the Formula 1 World Championship since 2000. »
« On behalf of our dedicated employees, the citizens of Indianapolis, and all the fans who supported the event, we are pleased to be awarded this trophy. »
The other prizes, such as the ASN trophy, go to the national sporting authority whose drivers have scored the most points during the season. This year, it was Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen who helped Finland win this award.
Kari O. Sohlberg, president of the Finnish Automobile Sports Federation AKK, stated: « It is fantastic to receive this award, especially since it is a first for Finland. »
« We are a small country in terms of population, but this country has proven to be a great nation in motorsport. »
« For the Finnish federation, this award is all the more important because the two drivers, Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen, who are at the origin of this prize, were members of the federation during their youth, » he concluded.
