After Ford, which has just appointed the replacement for Marcus Grönholm, namely Jari-Matti Latvala, it’s Suzuki’s turn, the newcomer in WRC, to officially announce Toni Gardemeister and Per-Gunnar Andersson as drivers.
So it will be two Scandinavian drivers who will defend the colors of the Japanese manufacturer next year at the wheel of the SX4 WRC. Former driver for Seat, Skoda, Ford, and Mitsubishi, Toni Gardemeister remains a reliable choice and an experienced driver. The Finn will be accompanied by Tomi Tuominen, who will serve as co-driver. As for Per-Gunnar Andersson, he knows the “house” well since he has been with the brand for four years and was a double Junior World Champion (2004 and 2007) with the Swift S1600. It is, of course, Jonas Andersson who will be alongside him as co-driver.
« Toni is one of the best drivers in the world with extensive experience on dirt, asphalt, snow, and ice, but also real skills as a fine-tuner, explains Monster Tajima, head of the Suzuki team. Per-Gunnar is the only driver to have won the Junior title twice, moreover with Suzuki. Thanks to them, we hope to continue the development of the car. »
The first appearance of the SX4 WRC will take place on the roads of Monte-Carlo on January 24th…
