Jenson Button sees Honda crowned as early as 2009

Jenson Button believes that Honda will be able to fight for the world championship in 2009.

The British driver indeed thinks that the arrival of Ross Brawn in the Japanese team has had a significant impact and therefore considers it normal that in 2008, Honda will make enormous progress.

« I am really very happy to have Ross [Brawn], » said Button this morning at the Autosport International Show in London. « When he arrived in the team, there was tons of applause, like I’ve never seen… »

« It will allow, by going around the team, to improve many things, including the performance of the entire design team. Many things have already changed. » Continued the Briton.

In 2008, and in my personal opinion, we will be fighting at the top of the championship, and if in 2009 we manage to create a good single-seater, then we will be able to win the constructors’ title. Once the team is united, we are very strong.

Button also spoke about the disappointment of 2007, a barren year for the Japanese team. According to him, the struggle throughout the season allowed them to make changes that will yield results in 2008.

« In a way, the year 2007 was a good year for the team. It seems silly, but we were able to focus exclusively on 2008 and choose the right direction. I am therefore looking forward to the future of my Honda team. » Concluded the young Englishman, 15th in 2007 with only 6 points scored.
