Beyond the titanic duel between Sébastien Loeb and Marcus Grönholm for the drivers’ title, the 2007 season was also marked by the fight for third place in the constructors’ championship between Subaru and Stobart. A fiercely contested battle until the final round of the season in Great Britain, where Subaru gained the upper hand over the Ford satellite team. Will we see the same duel in 2008?
Matthew Wilson, Stobart driver and son of the famous Malcolm Wilson, thinks that his team will still be able to challenge the Subaru team.
« For this season, we will have the cars that Marcus (Grönholm) and Mikko (Hirvonen) used at the end of last year. A real improvement for us », Matthew confided.
With the new car and the team we have, we should be able to compete with Subaru. If we manage to do so and get ahead of them, it would be a dream, continued the young Briton, who will not be eligible to score points for his team.
Let’s recall that the Finn Jari-Matti Latvala left to join the official Ford team but was replaced by the talented Gigi Galli.
On a personal level, Matthew believes he will perform even better next season. I improved last season because I was competing in the events for the second time, and I am satisfied with my results. Hopefully, this year, for my third participation in most of the events, things will be even better.
