The human and structural damages were significant. Following the major floods that hit the region of Emilia-Romagna in May, numerous buildings and houses had been affected and heavily damaged due to the torrential rains. The situation had led to the cancellation of the Grand Prix in Imola.

Following this cancellation, many institutions came to the aid of the people in this Italian region. « We immediately tried to provide a lot of support during this period, with various foundations that we have, with people who are passionate runners. I am always very grateful for the people we worked with, reveals Gian Carlo Minardi, the president of the Imola circuit.

270 million euros in economic benefits

Three months after these tragic events, he hopes that Formula 1 will be understanding and offer an additional year to the contract between the sport and the circuit.

« For the moment, we have a contract until 2025, but we would really like to also organize the GP in 2026. This way, we could together give something back to the region as it earns a lot of money thanks to an F1 race. »

« For the region, we’re talking about 270 million euros per year that come back thanks to Formula 1 racing, so it gives a great boost to the region, in which the Italian Motor Valley has also established itself. »

In addition to Formula 1, the Imola circuit will host a round of the World Endurance Championship in April. This will attract even more people to this Italian province.
