The allocation for the 2008 FIA World Touring Car Championship has been increased for independent drivers. It will now be 384,000 euros.

The allocation will be awarded to the drivers registered in the Yokohama Trophy for Independents.

During the twelve events of the season, a total of 32,000 euros will be awarded to the six best independent drivers, ranked by adding the points obtained during the two races:

• For the first one: 12,000 euros

For the second: 8,000 euros

• For the third: 5,000 euros

• For the fourth: 3,000 euros

• For the fifth: 2,000 euros

• For the sixth: 2,000 euros

The distribution of points will be the same as for the official WTCC championship: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points for the top eight ranked drivers. However, double points will be awarded during the last two races of the season held in Macau.

The previous winners of the WTCC Independents’ Trophy are Marc Hennerici (BMW 320i) from Wiechers-Sport in 2005, Tom Coronel (SEAT León) from GR Asia in 2006, and Stefano D’Aste (BMW 320si) from Wiechers-Sport last year.

Due to the small margin (2 points) with which D’Aste won the trophy in 2007, he will be able to compete again in 2008, but will begin the season with a two-point handicap against his competitors.
