Ferrari wants to get closer to the second place in the constructors’ ranking

Five points less than Aston Martin but 56 compared to Mercedes. It is both a lot and very little. A lot, because a team like Ferrari should not be so far from the silver arrows with a car capable of competing for victory. But also very close, because a poor performance from the German team and a part of this gap is filled.

During the first races of this season, Ferrari missed many opportunities. Already with on-track errors from Charles Leclerc and a discreet performance from Carlos Sainz. Also, the men in red were unable to take advantage of Max Verstappen’s mistakes to attempt something. Like in Azerbaijan, for example. The Dutchman, with a damaged car during the sprint race, managed to keep up with the Monegasque.

« We need to be much more opportunistic in the second half of the season. We need something a little special if we want to catch up with Mercedes, but the most important thing for me is to catch up with Mercedes in terms of pace », announced Frédéric Vasseur, the boss of the Scuderia.

Reinforcements expected

« I am more convinced that we need to improve everywhere and not just in one area. We are talking about tenths, not seconds, and we have shown on certain occasions that we are capable of competing with Red Bull, at least in qualifying. »

The replacement of Mattia Binotto believes that it will take 18 months for his team to build a solid team by recruiting from other teams on the grid. He also states that we should not wait for the arrival of these individuals to start working and that we should start now.
