In 2008, a new team could appear in the WTCC – World Touring Car Championship.
The team, of Brazilian origin, would be named ARCA Racing Team and would use Seat Leon cars from the 2007 season. To do this, the managers would like to purchase two Seat Leon cars that ran on gasoline last year.
Alfonso Azevedo, the owner of this future team expressed himself: « We are currently in the final phase of our project. We really want to be on the starting line in Curitiba. »
The team would be financed exclusively by private funds, as SEAT Brazil did not want to sponsor the team. Since the Seat Leon is not imported there, they saw no interest in it.
To successfully carry out their project in the championship, two Brazilian drivers are announced: Claudio Cantelli Jr and Danilo Dirani.
Cantelli has already raced in Formula Master while Dirani participated in the British F3 championship as well as in ChampCar.
For its first year in the WTCC, the team will only compete for the independent championship, if the project comes to fruition.
