The new driver in Rally WRC Stobart M-Sport, Gigi Galli, has taken a very nice initiative for this 2008 season.
The Italian, recently appointed as a Stobart driver for this new season, has decided to name his car after the highest bidder’s proposal at each event, allowing him to donate the funds raised through an auction system to a charity.
Thus, for each rally of the season, Gigi Galli will hold an auction two weeks before the event to determine the name of his Ford Focus WRC 07. The proceeds will be entirely donated to an association fighting against leukemia, created by the wife of a former Italian world skiing champion, Deborah Compagnoni.
The call for tenders for the Monte Carlo Rally has already been closed. Following the first session, Galli’s car will be named PEPA.
By habit, every vehicle created by Stobart (a transport company) bore a female name. The custom continued in WRC rallying, but with Galli’s initiative, Stobart’s executives could only place their trust in him.
