Renault and Alonso continue their progress

Renault was on track again today with Fernando Alonso at the Valencia circuit in Spain to continue familiarizing with the new R28.

The team was able to take advantage of ideal track conditions today with almost spring-like temperatures this afternoon. Fernando Alonso, driving the R28-01 chassis, carried out various setup tests this morning to modify the car’s balance and evaluate its reactions to these different changes. He then dedicated his afternoon to long runs to test the reliability of various car components and, above all, to accumulate as many kilometers as possible, and thus data.

Today again, the French team managed to complete its entire testing program without encountering any issues with their new car, a very positive point at this stage. At the end of the session, having covered 368 kilometers, Fernando Alonso ranked sixth with a time of 1’13.315.

The Spaniard will be on track again tomorrow for his last working day of the week. He will then hand over the wheel to his teammate Nelson Piquet Jr, who will in turn discover the R28.

Fernando Alonso: « This second day went smoothly, I was able to complete my program calmly, and we had a good exchange with the engineers during the session. I was able to do long runs again this afternoon, the car was responding well, the first results are encouraging, now we need to continue moving forward and making progress. »

Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: « Today, we have once again achieved most of the objectives we set for this second day of work. When discovering a new car, the primary focus is ensuring everything works in terms of safety and reliability, which is what we concentrated on today, and from that viewpoint, everything went well. Tomorrow, we will start a more extensive testing program for both the driver and the engineers, and it will be interesting to see the recorded data. »
