Kimi Räikkönen delivered a very strong performance today in Bahrain. The Ferrari driver achieved a time two seconds faster than the previous day and his teammate Luca Badoer today, during the second day of testing at the Sakhir circuit.
Ferrari, just like yesterday, was accompanied by Toyota on the Asian track. With four drivers on the track and better conditions than the day before, with no wind, the times overall improved.
With Räikkönen in race configuration and qualifying simulation with the F2008, the times are almost two seconds faster than during the 2007 Grand Prix. Promising a good 2008 season.
Behind the Finn, his teammate Luca Badoer takes the second fastest time. The two Ferraris thus lead, as they did yesterday, ahead of the two Toyotas, which are still developing the TF108.
Glock is third and sets the fastest time among the Japanese line-up, ahead of Trulli, who took over from Kamui Kobayashi. Both TF108s experienced gearbox problems in the early afternoon.
The Italian, three seconds behind Räikkönen, commented: « I had a complicated day and spent a lot of time in the garage to deal with the unexpected issues. But that’s part of the testing… »
« Obviously, the day could have been better, but we don’t have the updated version of the car yet and we are only in the first phase of development. » he concluded.
