The organizers of the Swedish Rally, the second round of the 2008 season, have decided to cancel the 12th stage, the super-special, due to lack of snow.
This race, taking place at the Horssjon stadium, was supposed to be a remake of the super special planned for this morning. However, many drivers have complained about the surfaces in the stadium. With the snow melted, the asphalt is mixed with gravel, all glazed by the overnight frosts. The conditions are indeed extremely warm, contrary to usual.
Dani Sordo, who won the second stage today, stated at the end of SS11: “I believe a second stage in these conditions will be very difficult for the tires.”
In these conditions, they will be easy to puncture, unless you are very careful. Some have already been caught out, like Henning Solberg who got a puncture.
Before his accident during SS11, Henning Solberg stated: « The conditions are very difficult. Snow patches come off, and we don’t know what to expect underneath. »
The world champion, Sébastien Loeb, added: « The conditions weren’t so bad this morning. But this afternoon, they are going to be terrible. »
