Sébastien Loeb retired during the remote assistance in Hagfors after SS11. During the fifteen-minute service, before learning that stage 12 was canceled.
The engineers of the Citroën team estimated that the engine – which was damaged yesterday after the Frenchman’s off-road excursion – would not be able to complete the second event of the WRC World Championship.
« We analyzed the data and it was clear that the engine would not last any longer », announced a team spokesperson.
« In these circumstances, we thought it was best to stop there. »
At this stage of the competition, Loeb is not yet losing the 2008 title, but he will have to win, as he did last year, a good number of rallies to get back in the race.
