Christian Abt bets on Alexandre Premat!

Christian Abt, former DTM driver for Audi, explained that he wants to bet on Alexandre Premat in the future. He indeed believes that the French driver will be capable of winning the German championship in the near future.

Alexandre Premat, who has already won races in GP2, joined DTM during the 2007 season at Zandvoort and quickly proved to be a threat to the other drivers, even going so far as preventing Martin Tomczyk from winning the title, which was ultimately awarded to Matthias Ekstrom.

Audi recently selected drivers to race in the 2008 version cars. However, the German brand did not select the French driver, but Abt, who is in charge of this program, believes that Premat will be able to win a title in a few years.

« Alex [Premat] is an excellent driver, he proved it very well last season, » commented the 40-year-old man. « Not only is he fast, but he also has a very good character. He is inevitably a future champion for me! ».

The owner of the Abt Sportsline team, in collaboration with his brother Hans-Jürgen, also defended Audi’s decision to select four drivers other than Premat to drive the 2008 Audis.

« If Audi is happy with the four retained drivers, why not keep them? This is not the first time they have done so, and this decision follows a certain logic. With these four drivers, we were able to win the title last year. They have a good team spirit and are really very good, all four of them… » continued the German.

Abt added that he had heard some names circulating to be part of Audi’s young driver program. According to him, the Frenchman could race with a 2007 version: « To date, I have heard the names of Alexandre (Premat) and Mike (Rockenfeller). They will undoubtedly be with me to prepare their season and bring them to the highest level. It won’t be easy, but I am counting on my 8 years of racing experience to help them. »
