The ‘DTM boss’ Hans Werner Aufrecht believes that Ralf Schumacher will need time before he fully gets used to this new discipline. However, he thinks that eventually, the German driver will end up shining.
Schumacher was confirmed at the start of the week with Mercedes after being let go by his last employer in F1, Toyota, at the end of last season.
The former Grand Prix driver will be behind the wheel of a Mercedes C-Class with the Trilux team during his only predetermined contract year to date.
Aufrecht stated that Schumacher’s arrival would be a boost for the DTM. He firmly believes that the German will eventually establish himself as a driving force in this series.
« Ralf Schumacher in the DTM is a real diamond in the rough. The fact that Ralf has accepted the challenge of the DTM shows that he is a true driver, » he said on the official DTM website.
« It will certainly be difficult for him at first, as others have experienced before him. »
« I am convinced that, thanks to his remarkable piloting skills, he will succeed in establishing himself in DTM in no time. »
