Kazuki Nakajima took the lead on the third and final day of the week of private testing in Barcelona, Spain. On the Catalunya circuit, the Japanese driver in the Williams was ahead of the two McLaren drivers by just a few thousandths.
The Japanese driver gained the advantage on a track much drier than in previous days. The drivers were therefore able to complete many laps, taking advantage of a track that improved minute by minute throughout the day.
The top five drivers in the standings are separated by just a tenth, but McLaren was faster than Ferrari today for their first day of action.
Ferrari, picking up the pace, caused a red flag during the seventh session of the day. Massa indeed stopped on the track in the morning.
Kovalainen and Mark Webber caused two red flags each, while Glock provoked another one for a spin. Alonso also faced an issue in the afternoon.
The Renaults and Toyotas are the lowest-ranked in the standings. However, both teams focused on aerodynamic assessments rather than pure performance.
Red Bull was in good form. They took 6th and 7th positions with Webber and Coulthard, currently battling with Williams.
