Indeed, contract stories are becoming more and more complicated. Just over a year after the Oscar Piastri saga, McLaren finds itself once again in the middle of a conflict between a driver and a team.

Two weeks after announcing that he would not honor his contract with McLaren, Alex Palou has decided to extend with Ganassi, in IndyCar. In response to this, Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, was considering taking legal action against the driver. And now, he has done just that.

« I have no idea what is going through his mind »

« Alex informed us that he did not intend to honor his contract with us in IndyCar or Formula 1. We have a contract, so we are now in legal proceedings. We filed a lawsuit against him in the London court last week, both as an individual and as a business entity. We will let the legal proceedings advance, confirms the CEO.

Thanks to the British stable, Alex Palou was eligible for the Super License and could aim for a seat in F1. Of course, the doors are currently closed at McLaren, but elsewhere, it was possible to find a seat.

« I have no idea what’s going through his mind, as I haven’t spoken to him. But things move fast in Formula 1. Drivers can break their wrist in an instant [like Daniel Ricciardo, at Zandvoort, Editor’s Note]. If you want to do Formula 1, you have to hold on tight and see what opportunities come your way. »

“« He didn’t personally communicate with me, which is rather disappointing considering everything we have done for him and the opportunities we have offered him,” laments Zak Brown.
