The talks will continue throughout the weekend for Super-Aguri, which is desperately seeking a solution to the financial problems it has been experiencing for several months. After another day of meetings that yielded no results in Japan, the team’s future still seems very uncertain.
The boss of Team Aguri, Suzuki, is in person in Tokyo to attend meetings with potential investors and senior executives from Honda.
The lack of payment from its main sponsor SS United last season has left a big gap in the team’s budget. The lack of financial resources forced them to limit their winter testing programs.
The talks are considered key for the future of Super-Aguri because unless they reach an agreement in the next 48 hours, the Japanese team will, once again, miss the tests next week in Barcelona, Spain.
If this happens, there will then be great uncertainties about the presence of Super-Aguri at the Australian Grand Prix for the opening of the season.
Some sources suggest that Honda’s leaders have presented a rescue plan for the struggling team. It is now up to Suzuki to accept or decline this offer, which will make Super-Aguri a somewhat less independent team.
Part of the team is already in Spain to start work as soon as possible if the situation were to be resolved.
One of the questions currently under debate, regarding a future agreement, is about the long-term future of the team. It needs to become a true constructor within the next two years.
Such an element must be taken into account by investments, and an increase in personnel will be necessary. Something that apparently makes Honda somewhat reluctant to finance Super-Aguri, as it would prefer to focus on its problems to regain an honorable position on the grid.
