Super-Aguri will not participate in this week’s testing in Barcelona, Spain. These are the last tests before the start of the season with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16th. The talks currently taking place in Japan to try to ensure a stable future for the team are the reason for this absence.
Aguri Suzuki, the team’s director, has been in Japan since the end of last week. Discussions are underway with senior Honda executives and potential investors to try to reach an agreement that would end Super Aguri’s financial difficulties.
These financial problems are due to the non-payment of debts by the former sponsor of the SS-United team last year, and limiting its testing became a necessity.
The team was hoping for an agreement before the end of the weekend, which would have allowed them to resume testing in Barcelona this week with their new car, but these hopes were dashed.
Some sources claim that Honda presented a rescue plan to Super-Aguri in exchange for a personnel reorganization to reduce costs. So far, Suzuki has not accepted this proposal.
There are also other investors who would be eager to strike a deal, but no serious decision has been finalized.
Despite an obvious lack of testing with the new car, the team continues its preparations for the season opener in Australia.
