Peter Solberg does not give up on Mexico… he will return

The Japanese team Subaru has confirmed that Petter Solberg will be back for the final day of the Rally Mexico despite his retirement in SS11 yesterday.

P. Solberg started the second day of the rally in fourth place before losing a position in SS10. Three-quarters through SS11, his Impreza WRC 2007 experienced a transmission problem on the front left, causing the Norwegian to lose more than four minutes and forcing him to finish the stage at a slow pace.

Solberg and his co-driver Phil Mills tried in vain to repair the problem on the road stage. But the team decided to withdraw the car to repair it at the Leon service park. Solberg will be able to restart tomorrow to score manufacturer points with a thirty-minute penalty.

« It was not a good day », admits Solberg. « I didn’t feel comfortable in the car this morning on slippery roads. Then we had a transmission problem that led to our retirement. It’s frustrating because we showed that we were competitive. We will start much later, and we will do what we can. »
