Aguri Suzuki refused to say whether his team was about to find an investor, thus continuing to fuel the uncertainties surrounding the future of Super-Aguri.
Suzuki flew to Japan at the end of February to meet with Honda executives with the aim of strengthening its small team financially, which has been severely weakened since the non-payment by its main sponsor last year.
The Japanese team had hoped that an agreement could be reached quickly, but in the end, discussions are at a standstill because Suzuki and Honda cannot agree on the way forward.
There are new rumors that a deal is about to be made, but Super-Aguri is preparing normally for the Australian Grand Prix.
Suzuki, who stayed in Japan to try to resolve the situation, refused to disclose details such as confirming or denying rumors of a new investor.
« We have nothing new to say, » he declared in response to the question about the latest developments in this case.
According to some sources, the British consulting firm Magma Group, headed by the former head of Ford (Europe), Martin Leach, was ready to submit a bid to take over the team. The company and its partners reportedly traveled to Japan to present their proposal there, but the idea was rejected by Suzuki.
Following this new development, Suzuki reportedly proposed an alternative to Honda’s executives, but the Japanese manufacturer was not in favor of this solution.
Suzuki is expected to start the 2008 season with an updated version of the latest RA108 and, most likely, Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson at the wheel of the two single-seaters.
Uncertainty reigns within this team 12 days before the start of the season…
