The former Formula 3 driver, Filip Salaquarda, has been announced by the Czech Republic team to participate in the last three rounds of the A1GP championship.
The 24-year-old Czech had already participated in a race with the team during the 2006/2007 season, last year, in Shanghai. He will replace Josef Kral in Mexico, Shanghai, and Brands Hatch, as the latter was not convincing in his debut in South Africa two weeks ago. This will be the fourth different driver used by the A1 Team Czech Republic this season.
Salaquarda also knows the British circuit of Brands Hatch from having raced there in F3. He believes he can be at the top as soon as the next weekend, in Mexico City, a track still unknown to him.
« I don’t know the track in Mexico but I am allowed to participate in the practice session reserved for rookies. I should therefore learn quickly, » explained the Czech.
« I raced in Shanghai last year in A1GP and I finished in the points, and Brands Hatch is not an unknown circuit for me thanks to my past season in the F3 Euroseries. »
Salaquarda was also in the running to participate in the Champcar Atlantic championship (junior of the World Series) in 2008 but was ultimately not chosen. That is why he now wishes to focus on the A1 Grand Prix.
