Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo, thinks that Formula 1 is heading towards a less exciting 2008 season compared to 2007. It’s true that, a priori, no drama or controversy should shake up the year as it was the case in 2007.
Di Montezemolo said to the journalists present at the Geneva Motor Show that his team wanted to win the title again with the same team spirit that had helped them so much last season.
« We are aiming high again. In 2007, we won because Ferrari was a team, while the others were not! » he stated in the columns of Gazetta dello Sport.
« Frankly, I expect a boring championship because there will be no magistrate nor James Bond, » added the Italian, referring to the espionage case.
He added for La Stampa: « There is a bit of apprehension for this first Grand Prix of the 2008 season: our car has made a big leap forward, but we have to measure ourselves against the other teams. I hope we win this title, but certainly not during the last race and in the last kilometers! »
Montezemolo’s observations were made on the same day Felipe Massa predicted a fast and, above all, reliable car.
« The foundation is good, the car is fast, consistent, and above all much more reliable than last year’s during pre-season, » he stated at a press conference in Brazil.
« I think we are in a very good position, but we must wait to know the first results to really understand where we stand. »
« Within the team, there is perfect equality between Kimi and myself. Afterward, everything is a matter of luck. I feel very comfortable in the car, I have absolute confidence in it, and all I need is that little bit of luck to be able to fight for the championship win, » concluded Massa.
