Bridgestone announced that its tires for Formula 1 in extremely wet conditions will be marked with a white line at the bottom of the central groove.
This white marking on the tires, which is already used for softer tires for each race, was introduced at the request of the teams and in consultation with the FIA. The aim is to better distinguish the tires suited for extreme wet conditions from those used in light rain.
« Throughout the 2008 Formula 1 season, Bridgestone will continue to mark its dry weather soft tires at each Grand Prix with a white line on the second groove from the inside, » stated Hiroshi Yasukawa, director of Bridgestone Motorsport.
« However, we will now extend the use of this white marking for tires that will be used in severe weather conditions. We hope that these changes will give spectators a better understanding of the strategies used by the 11 Formula 1 teams during wet races. »
Bridgestone is happy to be able to play an important role in a better understanding of the race for the fans.
