According to Nelson Piquet, Renault will need either rain and/or a large number of retirements if the team hopes to win a race in the 2008 season.
Although Fernando Alonso recently claimed that he had a 30% chance of winning the world title, his teammate even doubts the potential of their team to win a single race, so winning the championship for him or for the Spaniard is surreal.
« In a normal race where everything goes smoothly, I don’t think we can win the race because we are not fast enough, » he declared.
« Under pouring rain or thanks to other situations of a different nature, I think we can win a race. »
Renault was about a second slower compared to the best teams during pre-season testing, and according to these same times, it might even be difficult to achieve podium finishes.
