The Rally of Argentina modifies their Super Special

The organizers of the Rally Argentina, the fourth round of the 2008 World Rally Championship (WRC), were forced to relocate the super special stage due to administrative issues that delayed the construction of the track at the originally planned location.

The 2008 program was supposed to be completely different from the previous year, where the organizers had taken the crews to two super-specials in Buenos Aires and Cordoba. This season, the transportation was expected to be simpler since only one special stage at Camping General San Martin, not far from the service park in Villa Carlos Paz, was planned. However, issues in obtaining the necessary permits for the construction of the track on the San Martin site forced the organizers to change their plans. Four weeks before the start, the decision was made to move the special stage.

« The time required to authorize work on the Camping General San Martin circuit is not compatible with our schedule and our needs to adjust the circuit to the required international level. There are specific measures concerning the safety of the public and crews, national and international TV broadcast requirements, working infrastructures, and other points. » states a rally spokesperson.

The special will finally be held within the confines of the Cordoba football stadium. Nevertheless, and contrary to usual practice, the circuit will be constructed next to the football stadium – as other sporting activities are being organized during the same weekend.

The concept of the super-special remains unchanged. As planned, the first two days, Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, will conclude with a run through this special stage. On Sunday, to finish the rally, crews will set off two by two (with 4 cars, a world first in WRC).
