Gasly: “What a race!”

It was a radiant Pierre Gasly who went through the ritual of the pre-podium interview for the Dutch Grand Prix. The third-place finisher was as happy as if he had been in first place! His first words were: “« Wow! Yes! What a race!” », just as he had already said on his team’s radio.

Number 10 had reason to exult: he was in the rhythm throughout the race, after starting outside the Top 10. Even better: he managed to keep less than five seconds gap to Sergio Pérez, who was penalized by that amount of time. The restart sounds extremely promising for the Blues, now led by Bruno Famin.

And yet, the hardships have piled up this season for the French team: the A524 is far from being a bad car, but Gasly and his teammate Esteban Ocon have missed clear opportunities, either due to strategic shortcomings or, at worst, due to a collision.

Happy to see the progress made by Alpine since the beginning of the year, he emphasized that he appreciated such a comeback after the summer break: “« Such a result feels really good. I am super happy for the team.” »

Having received a five-second penalty for a slight speeding violation in the pit lane, Gasly admitted, « “I was quite annoyed by this penalty. But it was a very long race.” »

Pierre Gasly has clinched his 4th career podium at Zandvoort, with the first being his 2nd place finish in Brazil (2019), the second being his memorable victory in Monza (2020), and the third coming in the madness of Baku (2021).

The general questioning requested by former boss Laurent Rossi seems to have been assimilated. And Bruno Famin, before the race, declared on Canal+ that difficult conditions were necessary to make a comeback. It seems that the heavens have heard him! And Pierre Gasly added: “« everything is possible in Formula 1.” »
