Lewis Hamilton has ruled out any possibility for the moment of joining the ‘Grand Prix Drivers Association’ (GPDA), despite the hopes of the members of this organization.
The new GPDA president, Pedro de la Rosa, declared in Melbourne that one of his first tasks will be to try to convince reluctant drivers to join the association. This is the case, for example, with Lewis Hamilton.
But the latter specified that he does not yet intend to join because he believes he is too busy to make a positive contribution to the organization.
« There is no particular reason, » he commented when asked why he had not joined the GPDA.
« If you are part of an important organization, you have to get involved, and I don’t have the time for that at the moment. »
The Briton is optimistic about his chances of victory this weekend in Australia. He will start at the front tomorrow for the race.
Ferrari seems to have a very slightly better pace than McLaren, but it will need to watch out for Hamilton.
« I feel very, very optimistic. I think the pace we have is satisfactory. Heikki and I have done a very good job and I am comfortable in the car. »
« Last year, we had the fastest lap while Ferrari had a clear advantage on long distances. So watch out for Scuderia! »
