A more than negative assessment for this first race weekend for Super-Aguri. At the back of the grid throughout testing and during qualifying, the team couldn’t manage to lift its head out of the water and is sinking in Albert Park’s lake.
Davidson will have covered only a few meters before getting involved in the first skirmishes of the race. His teammate, Takuma Sato, will retire beyond the 30th lap among many others…
Takuma Sato – Retirement
«It was a difficult race for us. I missed my start but fought back to regain my original position. I was able to gain a few places in the first laps, it was an exciting moment of great work. »
« After the first pit stop and a few laps, we had an issue and I had to stop. It’s a shame because everyone did such a great job to be present in Melbourne. But I think we gathered very valuable information with today’s data during the race. In a week, we’ll all meet in Malaysia to try to do better. »
Anthony Davidson – Abandonment:
« It is disappointing to retire in the first race of the season with this Australian Grand Prix. I’m really frustrated because I would have liked to do a few more laps today and try to finish the race, as that was my main goal. »
« I think that for reasons beyond my control, I was caught between two cars while trying to avoid the inevitable. I tried to brake to get away from them, but the cars on the right and left were in front of my wheels. It was impossible to avoid this collision. »
Aguri Suzuki – Team Principal:
« I would like to thank all my collaborators and the drivers after a very difficult winter for the team. We are now here in Australia, and although we haven’t done enough pre-season testing, I think everyone did an excellent job this week. But ultimately, we were limited in terms of competitiveness during Friday’s practice, qualifying, and the race. »
« Anthony was very unlucky after the start, but Takuma had a good beginning to the race. We didn’t finish this one, but we are present in F1, we have started the 2008 season, and our fighting spirit is still there.
