The young Frenchman Romain Grosjean will start from pole position tomorrow in the first race of the GP2 Asia. The Art Grand Prix driver was nearly a second ahead of the second on the starting grid, Karun Chandhock.

The Renault F1 Team’s test driver proved to be the most decisive and completed an almost perfect lap, securing his third pole position in five events.

“This is a fantastic result!” commented Grosjean after the qualifying session. “This pole position was one of my goals upon arriving in Malaysia. The second is to win tomorrow’s race on this superb track.”

Running with Formula 1 right next to me didn’t put more pressure on me than usual. I’m still learning, so I’m giving myself time.

Driver Adrian Vallès, from the FMS – Fisichella Motor Sport team, will start from the third position alongside Bruno Junqueira.

Luca Filippi was actually the 5th fastest in today’s qualifying, but a failure to respect a yellow flag during the session cost him 5 positions on the starting grid, just like Vitaly Petrov, Hiroki Yoshimoto, and Jason Tahinci.

Consequently, Sébastien Buemi, victorious two weeks ago in Indonesia at Sentul, will occupy the 5th position on the grid tomorrow ahead of Fairuz Fauzy, the second winner of the Indonesian weekend.

Kamui Kobayashi, the test driver for Toyota F1 Racing, took the 7th position, alongside Davide Valsecchi (8th). Yelmer Buurman and Christian Bakkerud complete the top ten.
