The pre-season tests have therefore been a good indicator regarding the Williams team. Buoyed by his first podium just a week ago in Australia, Rosberg has once again made headlines in the morning practice session by posting the 4th fastest time.
Nakajima, for his part, was a bit more withdrawn, due to mechanical issues that prevented him from completing the morning tests successfully. Williams continues its preparations for tomorrow’s qualifying tonight.
Nico Rosberg – 4th and 12th:
« The track is very different today due to the new asphalt. I think everyone started from scratch. For us, the day went well; I think we made a step forward to achieve better results than in Australia. »
The single-seater seems very good on the long straights and I am quite happy with what we have achieved. We tried a lot of things, just to see what would happen. The track was much better during the second session, but I am quite satisfied with our overall work on this first day.
Kazuki Nakajima – 12th and 11th:
« It was hot today! Of course, it’s a shame to have ended there this morning with the problem we encountered. Nevertheless, I still managed to record fifteen timed laps in the last 30 minutes of the morning, so I limited the damage. »
« We still need to tackle a number of things on the car to be fully ready for tomorrow in terms of setup. But the car improved throughout the second session of the day, and by the end of the 90 minutes, I was starting to feel a better balance. »
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
« We had a productive day with a program for both cars that was completed. We must now think about our race strategy in terms of tires, but also on cooling the engines so they can withstand the humid ambient heat. During the first session, we had a number of issues with Kazuki’s car. »
« The mechanics did a very good job and did their utmost to minimize the time lost. We will now study the data and see what other changes we can make to the overall setup of the car. »
