On this first day of testing in Sepang, the two Toyota drivers differentiated themselves with their respective performances. Jarno Trulli scored a double by achieving two impressive performances during the day’s two test sessions. He was in the top 10 each time, even securing a 6th place in the afternoon.
His young teammate was less brilliant and is around 15th place, but the hardest part is yet to come, and Toyota will work all night if necessary to be ready for qualifying.
Jarno Trulli – 10th and 6th:
In general, it was a good day and I am satisfied with the way things went. We still have a few issues to resolve on the car to be more competitive, but we made some changes between the two free practice sessions, which made the difference. We made a good step forward.
« It’s only Friday, so it’s difficult to generally judge the level of the other teams. I’m convinced that we can bounce back after the disappointment in Melbourne. The only problem is that rain could make its appearance, and the forecasts for this weekend are mixed. I prefer dry races. »
Timo Glock – 14th and 17th:
« The car is behaving quite well, but I haven’t yet made the most of my tires in the first laps. I was sliding a bit too much for my liking. I’m not sure if it’s a real issue; it’s something we’ll have to look into tonight. Fortunately, I have no aftereffects from my accident last week, and my hand is fine. »
« Our pace was good last week and I have confidence in the new car, but we still need to work to improve. We are in a very tight group of teams, and if we could emerge from this group as the winner, it would be a great satisfaction. »
Dieter Gass – Chief Race and Test Engineer:
« This is the kind of Friday I really like. We completed our programs on both cars without any problems. We also gathered information for the single-seater setup. »
« We collected all the tire data we wanted and Jarno had a very good long run at the end of the session. Timo continued to struggle to get the best out of his tires on the first lap. But with our data, we will improve that tonight. »
« The track improved throughout the day, but the new surface doesn’t make a big difference. Now we’re focusing on the rest of the weekend, mainly the qualifying sessions. »
