A day to forget for the Austrian team Red Bull, which even had a big scare with its driver David Coulthard’s accident in the morning.
The Scotsman’s single-seater sustained significant damage to the front suspensions when it hit a curb in turn 13. The situation was serious enough for the team to decide to keep Coulthard in the pits in the afternoon. Before his accident, he had set the 16th fastest time in the first session.
His teammate, Mark Webber, was unable to lift the team’s spirits. He finishes both test sessions beyond 15th place. A weekend that seems to have started off poorly for Red Bull after impressive performances in qualifying last week.
Mark Webber – 17th and 16th:
« We lost time in the first session due to an engine failure. The second session went better and we completed a good number of laps. The positive point is that we have some data to analyze tonight. However, we need to find a good rhythm if we hope to achieve better performances. »
Christian Horner – Red Bull Director:
« It’s frustrating for David, who could not take part in the second practice session due to his accident in the morning, which saw his front suspension shatter. »
« To ensure that his car suffers no harm, we decided to use our time wisely this afternoon. He will get back on track tomorrow. Mark completed a strong program this afternoon and seems satisfied with the balance of his car. We look forward to tomorrow. »
