Fernando Alonso and Nick Heidfeld complained to the race stewards after encountering cars that were slowing down while they were on their final fast lap during qualifying.
Heidfeld was forced to deviate from his trajectory to avoid a collision because several cars were blocking the way. The German claims that the incident cost him at least 0.2 seconds, a difference since the third position slipped away and he is currently in seventh on the starting grid.
These were the McLarens that bothered me the most around turn 4. I had to deviate from my trajectory, especially when braking. I lost time in this matter. I think, about two-tenths. From my point of view, what these drivers did is incorrect.
Mario Theissen, the team principal of BMW Autosport, also stated that he wants clarification on this situation.
« I am not happy because the schedule was very tight. I think Nick is currently talking to the race management at the moment. »
The double world champion, Fernando Alonso also spoke with the track marshals along with his engineer Steve Nielsen and Flavio Briatore, admitting that he has encountered similar issues.
