Peter Solberg and his team, Subaru, preferred to warn the media and their fans this weekend by stating that a good performance in Argentina next week is not necessarily expected.
The team achieved their best result in two weeks since the 2006 season thanks to the second position secured by Chris Atkinson. The Australian also marked the best result of his career in Mexico.
Nevertheless, Solberg, who retired on the second day, remains cautious about the performance of the Impreza WRC. The Mexico rally being at high altitude, this factor may have favored the Japanese car.
« When the engine is at high altitude, the traction of the wheels is increased, and for us, it works much better than with other competitors apparently… »
The Argentine rally, the 4th round of the season, also includes stages in mountains and at high altitude, but with its very wide range of landscapes, the Argentine rally will undoubtedly not be as favorable as its Central American counterpart. Solberg nevertheless hopes to deliver good results for his team, continuing the performance achieved by Atkinson in Mexico.
« The stages are very narrow and fast, and it’s very interesting. The team has worked very hard since Mexico, I am quite optimistic and I believe that in Argentina the whole team will be confident », confirms the Norwegian.
« We will first find our footing with the Shakedown, then I will try to push harder and harder to compete with the top of the leaderboard. »
Atkinson, for his part, expects to experience a more difficult rally than the one in Mexico: “Argentina is probably one of the most difficult rallies for me.”
« It seems to be a rally where a bit of experience is needed, at least that’s been the case for a long time. Just remember the victories of Sainz, or others who started their careers at the top level thanks to a win here. »
« We will need to have much more precise settings than in Mexico, but we remain optimistic for the rally. »
