Super Aguri delivered a performance worthy of a Formula 1 team for the first time this season by bringing both its cars to the finish line despite challenging conditions for the mechanics.
Takuma Sato finishes the Grand Prix in 16th position and is already outpaced by his young teammate Anthony Davidson.
The 2008 season finally begins for the Japanese team.
Takuma Sato – 16th:
« I’m happy to have been able to finish the race. My first and second relays were very good but after my second pit stop, I picked up dirt on my tires and on my out lap I went straight at high speed. I then lost a lot of time. »
« Almost every lap I encountered traffic and I was never really able to attack at 100%. Nevertheless, we finished this race having gathered a large amount of very useful information for later. With all this, we are satisfied. »
Anthony Davidson – 15th:
« It was a good race for the team and me today. It was great to do my first full race since Brazil 2007, and I feel that everything went well. The team worked hard, the car was reliable, and the tires performed well… »
« I felt comfortable in the single-seater and I was able to attack as I wanted and improve my lap times one after the other. I avoided race incidents and managed to bring the SA108 to a good position despite the difficult situation we are in at the moment.
Aguri Suzuki – General Director:
« I am very happy to have seen our two cars finish this Malaysian GP, as it was very hot, very humid and the race was difficult. The whole team did an excellent job and having both cars at the finish means we have finally started the 2008 season… »
