The former world champion, Fernando Alonso insists that he is not at all frustrated by his team Renault’s lack of form. The start of the season is still quite challenging for the Spaniard.
Even though the Spaniard finished fourth in the Australian Grand Prix, his R28 does not have the pace needed to hope for a victory. In Malaysia, Alonso finished the race in seventh place, 70 seconds behind the winner Kimi Räikkönen.
Alonso won two titles in 2005 and 2006. He has been in the fight for the championship gain for over three years now, but despite the current situation, he claims not to be irritated by his performances at the moment.
« As long as you know in advance that the car is not fast enough to win, there are no surprises and the situation is not frustrating, » he explained.
« It’s something I knew since the winter tests. We are not at the level of the best teams, so we must continue to improve.
« This is not the time to give up. We simply need to work harder than the other teams and try to make up the gap. It is necessary to move forward race after race, month after month, and make the car more competitive. »
« We are fighting to be present in Q3 and finish in the points at the end of each race, » continued Alonso.
« Today, the situation presents no surprises. It is more or less what we expected, but improvements are on the way. »
