Qatar, a small state in the Persian Gulf, is considering modifying its Moto GP circuit with the aim of hosting Formula 1 cars in the near future. This is, in any case, the intention of the president of the Losail circuit, Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah.
“We are preparing a massive upgrade of the Losail circuit which will allow it to host, when the time comes, Formula 1 races,” he stated to the Gulf Times on Wednesday.
« We will issue a call for tenders for the upcoming work, and once we have awarded the contracts, the upgrade can begin. »
The Losail Moto GP circuit hosted the first nighttime race in this discipline at the beginning of this month. However, the country will have to wait several years to present a Formula 1 race since Bahrain is already on the calendar and Abu Dhabi will make its debut next year.
« No one can say what will happen in the future, » added al-Attiyah.
« F1 teams will be able to use this track during testing, which will help the circuit make a name for itself and gain some benefits from the upcoming work. »
