Qualification – Scheider on pole for Audi

Timo Scheider achieved the third pole position of his DTM career for the first race of the season, which will take place on Sunday in Hockenheim.

The Audi driver thus confirms his good form and especially the day’s testing. It seemed evident that he would secure this pole position when the eight finalists began the last phase of qualifying.

Mattias Ekstrom, reigning world champion, will be alongside Scheider on the front row in another A4 2008 version. Mercedes will occupy the second row of the grid.

Audi had secured the top four spots after the first part of the qualifying session, but Bruno Spengler and Paul di Resta entered the fray.

However, Mercedes has reasons to be concerned, since despite securing 3rd and 4th place for tomorrow’s race, Spengler and di Resta are four-tenths of a second behind Scheider.

Tom Kristensen and Jamie Green will start from the third row, while Martin Tomczyk settles for a disappointing seventh place.

Oliver Jarvis is the strong man of these qualifications, as he is the only driver to have reached the final phase of the qualifiers (top 8) with an ‘old’ car, which is not a 2008 version.

Gary Paffett will start from the 10th position with a Mercedes that’s already a year old, while Ralf Schumacher finds himself in a very disappointing 15th place after being eliminated in the first minutes of the qualifying session.
