Robert Kubica will soon be the new holder of the Lorenzo Bandini trophy.
The prize, officially titled the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, is a tribute to the late Italian driver who was burned alive in an accident in Monaco in 1967.
Last year, the winner was Felipe Massa and before him, Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen, Michael Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jenson Button, Jarno Trulli, Alex Wurz, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jacques Villeneuve, and David Coulthard were also honored.
Kubica, 22 years old, recent pole man at the last Bahrain Grand Prix who is impressive at the start of the 2008 season with his team BMW-Sauber, will receive the trophy from the hands of Bandini’s widow in the village square of the driver’s birthplace, Brisighella, near Imola.
The event, which dates back to 1992, usually takes place in May.
Kubica has a special relationship with Italy since he has lived in this country. Additionally, he speaks Italian fluently, and has since his beginnings in karting.
