Swiss driver Neel Jani won the first race of the weekend in the A1 Grand Prix in Shanghai, China. The young Swiss driver started from pole position and never relinquished his lead. He thus scores 15 points, crucially needed for the title, almost secured with one weekend remaining until the end of the season.

Néel Jani had a perfect race, making a faultless start and pit stops without any issues. The Swiss driver finished 21 laps ahead with more than 4 seconds over Canadian Robert Wickens and Portuguese Felipe Albuquerque.

New Zealand’s title hopes were almost shattered at the first corner after a collision with the USA and Jonathan Summerton. Despite this withdrawal, New Zealand can still hope to win the title. This is no longer the case for France, which can at best take the runner-up position.

Franck Montagny finishes in 12th place after making a good start and gaining 6 positions in the first lap (he started 18th).

Canada thus finishes ahead of Portugal after Robert Wickens seized second place with an aggressive overtaking maneuver in the first corner. Alex Yoong also got a good start and takes 4th position for Malaysia, just ahead of Narain Karthikeyan for India. There were four former F1 drivers in the race this weekend.

Germany, like Great Britain, is in the points, while China, at home, takes the point for 10th place despite starting 15th.
