The speed of cars, Audi is the first to be surprised!

Audi admitted it did not expect its new A4 to be so competitive during the first race weekend at Hockenheim.

The German team dominated the first event of the season, with Mattias Ekstrom, Timo Scheider, and Tom Kristensen on the podium.

Outside of Paul di Resta, the Mercedes drivers do not pose a real threat to Audi. In any case, the new A4 is garnering a lot of praise from the drivers who are behind the wheel.

« The development we have done with this car is really good. I must say the car somewhat surprised me, » commented Ekstrom.

« I can enter corners exactly how I want. I’ve always said that my 1999 Super Touring car was the best, but I think this is even better. »

Kristensen, third, added that Audi worked very hard on setting up the car to achieve the result at Hockenheim.

« We have focused a lot of our time this winter on Hockenheim, as there are two races here. We emphasized ensuring to be fast, but to be honest, this car is better than we had anticipated. »

Even though the team made a strong impression, Audi, through Wolfgang Ullrich, is expecting a comeback from Mercedes.

« We have developed an entirely new car with significant potential, » explained Ullrich.

« We must continue with this momentum. We have a very big competitor and trying, even for a second, to stop working would be a big mistake. »
